=== Vacation in Grampian ===
Grampian in North East Scotland, which takes its name from the Grampian mountain range that dominates the western part of the region, is famed for its rich history and its cultural heritage. The area has at times been under Pictish, Celtic and Viking rule and influence and now is home to one of Scotland’s biggest trade ports, the city of Aberdeen, which has brought prosperity, regeneration and multiculturalism to the city. ‘The Silver City’ is not, however, the region’s only attraction. There are many historical sites, ranging from the Medieval Deskford Church and Duff House to the pre-historic stone circles that add characteristic charm to Glenmore Forest Park, arguably Scotland’s most beautiful natural park and one that is internationally recognized for its unique wildlife and atmosphere, making many guests feel transported back to a time immemorial.
The region is also steeped in history, with the region being the theatre in which many decisions that decided the fate and course of modern Scotland were made. Battles fought in Grampian that are fundamental parts of Scottish history and heritage have left their mark on Grampian – not just in the landscape, but on the architecture, the tradition, the folklore and the people themselves. Whether it’s the site of the Viking landings in the early 1100’s, or the ruins of the great castles of the former Earldom of Mar, Grampian offers you an insight into a Scotland past but not forgotten – yet certainly one you won’t find in the centre of Edinburgh.
